Keyword Optimization With Keyword Density and html Meta Tags

April 19th, 2008 · No Comments

KEYWORD is Truly the King of the Internet.

First and foremost, a keyword is a word, term or phrase searched by people on search engines. For your web application, make sure your main keywords are present in the Meta Title tag, Meta Description tag and Meta Keywords html tags, as well as the content of your web page to achieve the full effect of search engine optimization (SEO). Write the Meta Description in relation to the content of each particular web page you are optimizing, and make sure your keywords are in it at least once.

The amount of search engine traffic your selected keyword has, versus the amount of times it appears on Internet web pages provides a mathematical ratio for you to determine its usefulness for your Website. If your keyword is common, or if it has multiple meanings, you can end up with many irrelevant hits to your site.

You can literally focus your effort on one keyword, but it is recommended that you find several ways your keyword is thought of, and use all or most of them. For instance Car, Auto, Automobile, Motorcar, Passenger Vehicle all mean the same thing!

Then you should get a hold of some semantically related keywords to round out the keyword research process. I will be discussing how this can be accomplished in a later Posting.

HOW TO FIND KEYWORDS

An easy way to make some useful free keyword tool determinations is to do a search in Google, MSN or Yahoo for your term. The top ten web page results are then displayed for the indexed search. You currently have only half the story with this method. The results don’t tell you how often the keyword has been searched for on a daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual basis.

The two free keyword tools methods I just described will take a lot of time, energy and organization, but these free keyword tools don’t cost you anything. There are however, several exceptional keyword services that can and will provide all the data you could possibly need, and very quickly.

KEYWORD DENSITY

Next is keyword density. Keyword density is a calculation given as a percent of times that a keyword is used on a web page in relation to the total text on that page. The keyword density of a particular keyword in relation to the amount of Semantically related keywords in your text will have a bearing on your ranking in the search engines.

So, determine the usefulness of a keyword by the amount of competition it has, versus how many searches there are for it. If the keyword is too popular then it may require more work and effort than it’s worth for achieving a top ten ranking.

Please feel free to post your questions regarding this…
